The countdown finds the next time the event date comes round and counts the whole days from today to it.

Give this the date of an event, a wedding, a first date, a work start, a birthday or a house move, and it counts the days to the next time that date comes round. It also names which numbered anniversary is next, shows the exact date, and tells you the weekday it falls on so you can plan a meal, a card or a trip in good time. The count refreshes against today, so the number you see is the days remaining right now, not a rough guess. It is the tool for staying ahead of the dates that matter rather than scrambling at the last minute.

How it works

  1. Enter the date of the original event in full.
  2. The calculator finds the next time that day and month come round, this year if it is still ahead, otherwise next year.
  3. It counts the whole days from today to that next date.
  4. It also works out which anniversary the next date marks and the weekday it lands on.

days until = next occurrence of the event date on or after today - today; anniversary number = that year - event year

The calculator takes the month and day of the event and builds that date in the current year. If the date is still ahead it uses it; if it has already gone by it moves to the same date next year. The countdown is the plain number of whole days from today to that target. The anniversary number is the gap in years between the target date and the original event, so the next date after a 2015 event in the year 2026 is the 11th.

Worked example

A wedding on 12 September 2015, viewed on 25 June 2026: the next anniversary is 79 days away, on 12 September 2026, which is the 11th and falls on a Saturday. The day after that anniversary the countdown resets to roughly 365 and starts again toward the 12th.

Frequently asked questions

What happens once the anniversary passes?+

The moment the date is behind you, the countdown rolls to the same day next year and the number jumps back to around 365. So the figure always points at the next occurrence ahead, never one in the past.

Which anniversary number does it show?+

It shows how many years the next date marks since the original event. If you married in 2015, the date coming up in 2026 is your 11th anniversary, counted as the difference between the two years.

How does it treat an event on 29 February?+

In years without a 29th the next anniversary rolls to 1 March for the date and weekday shown, since that is where the calendar settles it. In a leap year the true 29 February date returns.

Can I count down to a future event rather than a past one?+

The tool is built for anniversaries of something that has already happened. If you enter a date still in the future, the anniversary number reads as not yet reached, because the first occurrence has not arrived.
